Overview

The Learjet 60 is a midsize, medium range aircraft that was first introduced as the Model 60 Learjet in 1993. It is an improved version of the Learjet 55; same cockpit but a 43” longer fuselage, better brakes and more powerful turbofan engines. The improvements stem from aerodynamic modifications such as the inboard wing cuff and wing-to-body fairing, the ‘ogive’ winglet trailing edge and the placement of two ventral fins. The lines of the cockpit did not change.

Manufactured by Bombardier Aerospace in Wichita, Kansas, it is powered by two Pratt & Whitney Canada 305A turbofan engines that each produce 4,600 lbs of thrust at take off. It is equipped with Pro Line 4 Avionics and the cabin can accommodate up to nine passengers. It first flew on 10 October, 1990 and received FAA certification in January 1993. Customer deliveries followed later that year.

Production of the Learjet 60 ended in 2007 following completion of 318 deliveries.

In 2005 Bombardier launched a variant designated the Learjet 60XR, with upgraded Proline 21 avionics and a redesigned cabin that can seat six passengers. The first flight was made in 2006 and following certification, it entered service in 2007.

Bombardier paused production of its Learjet 60XR in the second quarter of 2012 and manufacturing ceased in 2013.
