Overview

Cessna launched its Model 525 CitationJet in 1989 following the discontinuation of the Citation I in 1985. A first flight took place on 29 April, 1991, FAA certification was awarded on 16 October, 1992 and the first delivery was on 30 March, 1993.

Previous Citations had used a straight wing that slowed the aircraft down, but the CitationJet has a natural laminar flow wing that improves lift-to-drag characteristics. Otherwise it has the same basic Citation forward fuselage mounted to a T-tail configured tailplane. It is powered by two 1,900 lbf Williams Rolls FJ44-1A turbofans with paddle thrust reversers, trailing link main undercarriage and can seat up to six passengers. The CitationJet's fuselage is 27cm shorter than that of the Citation/Citation I, while cabin height is increased thanks to a lowered centre aisle. It is certificated for single pilot operation.

Cessna revealed the development of the CJ1 in 1998. The CJ1 has the same powerplant, a Collins Pro Line 21 EFIS avionics suite and an increase in maximum take off weight. It was designed to operate on short runways, offers an increase in maximum take off and fuel weights and is faster than the CitationJet.

The CJ1+ was announced on 12 October, 2004. It is powered by Williams FJ44-1AP dual-channel FADEC controlled engines. The FAA granted type certification on 20 June, 2005.
